A Word From Our Executive Director
Residents,
School is more than 4 weeks in. I trust that everyone is doing well so far. Keep up the good work!
We have lots of events scheduled for the next few months. We hope that you all will make arrangements to attend and participate. If you look at the calendar on page 3, you will see that Sept. 16th is National Play-Doh Day. Please stop by the gym on that day and enjoy the most popular childhood toy ever. We will have PlayDoh for all ages, ALL DAY. Stop by and get creative, learn some sensory skills, or just socialize.
On the 22nd, Dickson County Women's Club will be here from 6-7:30 pm for another Youth Paint Party. The featured painting will have a Halloween theme, which is shown on page 4. Please remember there is a limit of 20 painters who are in 1st-6th grades. Pizza will be served. Please remember to register with Tracy by September 19th. 615-446-9766.
September 27th will be our monthly Resident Association Meeting in the Community Center at 2 pm. We are very excited to have Ms. Melissa Tucker from Crye-Leike Realtors, who will be speaking to us about the different programs that are available when looking to purchase a home, such as the First Time Buyers program. She will also be giving us some secrets and tips to begin the process.
We are planning quite a few activities throughout the remaining of the year, such as "Lunch & Learns," art projects, fun days, and movie nights. However, we will need volunteers, donations, and, most importantly, PARTICIPATION. Please reach out to Tracy, your Resident Services Coordinator. She works hard to get these activities scheduled and planned, but she can't do these things without your help.
As always, slow down, and let's get involved!
Sincerely,
Sherry Lynch, Executive Director
Maintenance Emergency
If you have an emergency and it's during office hours, please call the office before calling maintenance.
DHA News
- Administrative Business: All business will be handled through the service window. If you are sick, please call our office instead of making a visit.
- Rent: We encourage all residents to use the online rent portal for rent payments. To access the portal, visit our website at DicksonHousing.org and click on "Pay Online" You will have to create an account if you haven't already. Got questions or need help? Please contact our office.
- No Smoking!! There should be absolutely no smoking inside your unit.
- Pools: Pool season is coming to a close. Make sure that all pools and accessories are stored away in your storage units.
- Covid Rent Relief: The Covid Rent Relief payments are intended for rent payments only. All residents should continue paying utilities and any other fees due, as usual.
- Roaches and Bed Bugs: If you suspect that you have roaches and/or bedbugs, it is extremely important that you let us know immediately. The longer this goes untreated, the harder it will be to get under control. Get in the habit of inspecting your beds, furniture, and curtains frequently.
Maintenance
- Trash!! If your trash does not fit in your trash can, do not set it on the ground. Cumberland Disposal will NOT pick it up. Do not store trash on your porches. If it doesn't fit, take it to one of the city trash receptacles.
- Outside of Units!! There should be NOTHING stored outside of your unit other than lawn furniture and grills. Mattresses, old tires, bikes, toys, tarps, wagons, trash, etc., should not be stored on the porch or in the yard. Use your storage rooms or get rid of these items.
- Pets!! We are having a major issue with pet waste in the yards. If you have a pet, you signed a pet agreement that states that you are responsible for cleaning this up. If this continues to be a problem, pet fees will increase.
- Leashes!! When your pet is outside, they are to be on a leash at all times. They ARE NOT to be tethered and then left outside. You must stay with them. When tethered, the leash must be tethered so that neither the lease nor the pet will cross over walkways, stairs, sidewalks, etc. When finished with the leash/chain, do not leave it on the ground. These can cause serious damage to mowers/weed eaters. If we pick it up, it will be discarded.
- Close Storm Doors!! DO NOT leave storm doors propped open. The wind will damage the closer, and you could be charged.
Resident Services
- Store Days will continue to be every Thursday 8-11 AM. Rides must be requested no later than 24 hours in advance.

Ever thought about owning your own home? Ever wondered what you will need or where to begin?
We will have Melissa Tucker from Crye-Leike, to give us some insight on the First-Time Buyers Program, the Rent-to-Own Program, and the ins and outs of just where to begin.
REMINDER LEASE VIOLATIONS
- PET POLICY: Residents are reminded that there are pet policies and procedures that must be completed before you can have an animal at your apartment - whether they are a pet or you are requesting a support animal. ALL animals must be approved by the Housing Authority before they can be at your apartment. Visiting pets are NOT allowed on the property.
- UNAUTHORIZED GUESTS: We continue to find some residents allowing unauthorized guests to live with them. Residents are allowed guests 3 nights per year, and upon approval, you may request up to a maximum of 14 days per year. If they are not on your lease, then they are unauthorized to live here. If you want someone to live with you, you must add them to your lease.
- INCOME CHANGES: It is very important to report all changes in family composition and income, in writing, to the office within 10 days of the change. For example, report a job as soon as you obtain it - do not wait until you receive your first check. Waiting will result in less than a 30-day notice of any increases and may result in owing back rent in addition to your regular rental payment.
9/11 Remembrance
On September 11, 2001, nineteen men boarded four US commercial airplanes, all bound for west-coast destinations. Soon after, 2,977 people, ranging from ages 2 to 85, lost their lives when those planes were hijacked and purposely crashed in New York City, Washington, DC, and Shanksville, Pennsylvania. The attack was later found to be orchestrated by al Qaeda leader Osama bin Laden.
American Airlines Flight 11 and United Airlines Flight 175 were flown into the north and south towers of the World Trade Center. Soon after impact, the towers collapsed, killing 343 New York City firefighters, 23 New York City police officers, and 37 Port Authority officers. In Washington, DC, 184 people were killed when American Airlines Flight 77 crashed into the Pentagon.
Another 40 individuals lost lives when United Airlines Flight 93 crashed into a field outside of Shanksville, Pennsylvania. It is unclear what the location of the actual target would have been. However, it is believed the hijackers decided to crash the airplane after passengers and crew attempted to gain control of the flight deck. As of October 2019, 1,645 of the 2,753 World Trade Center victims' remains have been positively identified, according to the New York medical examiner's office.
In honor of the victims, a moment of silence is given at 8:46 AM (Eastern); the exact moment when the first plane hit the towers. Freedom Tower has since been built and stands in place of the World Trade Center. It represents the forward movement of America. The 9/11 Memorial also stands on the site and features the names of every victim, two waterfalls, and reflection pools.
Did You Know...
National PlayDoh Day, September 16th, is dedicated to a childhood favorite - PlayDoh!!
PlayDoh has become one of the most memorable, popular children's toys that were ever produced. However, it wasn't originally meant to be a toy at all. In 1933, two brothers developed the non-toxic material when most people used wood-burning stoves to heat their homes. The doughy material was used as wallpaper cleaner to remove the soot from the walls. After World War II, many homeowners converted to oil and gas-based furnaces, eliminating the need for wallpaper cleaner, and so the demand for the product plummeted. In 1955, a school teacher suggested marketing the product as an arts and craft material to make sculptures, ornaments, and clay dolls. Soon after, it was called Play-Doh and became a household staple after Bob Keeshan - better known as Captain Kangaroo-showcased it on his popular children's television show. And the rest was history...
To celebrate National PlayDoh Day, September 16th, make a trip to the Community Center and learn more interesting facts. Bring your "inner child" and show us how creative you can be. We will have PlayDoh ALL DAY....come be creative and play for a while.
